Album: Glee: The Music, Volume 6

November, I gave you Volume 4. March, I gave you Volume 5. Now, it's time for Volume 6!

This is a compilation of some songs that were released from Season 2. Eighteen tracks, which constitute performances from the second half of the current season. This includes three original songs, Pretending and Light Up The World, which will be performed later at this year's Nationals. Also, an original song by Charice as a Vocal Adrenline entitled As Long As You're There. Enjoy!

Glee Music 2: New York (Finale Episode)

Just to avoid confusion, this set of songs are for next week's Finale episode entitled New York. I posted a couple of days ago about the music that will be featured on this week's Funeral episode. So, there's that.

Now, since this is the last episode of this season - meaning, Nationals! - I was really expecting for some good songs to be featured. I can't say I'm disappointed, but somehow I knew it could've been better. But, whatever. Enjoy!

As Long As You're There

WOW! Sunshine Corazon is back! Seriously? After listening to this, I thought to myself, "Vocal Adrenaline will win this!" I mean, this song is so much better than both of the New Directions' original songs. Sunshine sounds impeccable, the arrangement is soaring, the orchestration is stunning and I love the lyrics. To me, this is a competing ballad worthy of a Nationals win. Just saying. 9/10

Bella Notte

Color me surprised, but I still can't believe Glee covered one of Disney songs! Haha. I appreciate how beautiful and peaceful Bella Notte is, but I didn't really care much about it. Oh, and is it just me or do Sam/Puck sound like they are really straining their voices? 6/10

Light Up The World

Ok. Just like Loser Like Me, it's grown on me. It's a happy song! However, I still don't think it's Nationals material. I mean, this song just doesn't have that epic feel to it. What made their competition songs like Don't Rain on My Parade and You Can't Always Get What You Want so great was the fact that they were amazing versions of real songs a real show choir could sing. A show choir is not going to sing an overproduced, recorded pop song heavy on production effects for a competition. To be fair though, if I can get past the completely unnecessary auto-tune, it's really catchy. Not for Nationals though. 7/10

Pretending

For the record, I appreciate this song on a story level for Finn and Rachel. And the song, itself, is lovely. But for Nationals, it's lacking that certain, again, epic feel! I don't know. All of a sudden, I don't want them to do these cover songs. Show choir is just as about the performance as it is about the vocals. Choir focuses just on the vocals. But show choir, on the other hand, is about the movement, the choreography, the story. It's a spectacle! The same reason why Bohemian Rhapsody took the cake last year for Vocal Adrenaline. I like it. I'll watch on the show and grin like an idiot. Sadly, not good enough to win Nationals. 8/10

For Good

Chills. This is quite surprising as I actually like Kurt on this song when I thought I'd hate him. I love both Rachel and Kurt individually on this, but when they start singing together it was magical. Their harmonies are amazing! I don't understand why they insist on doing the original songs for competitions when they could be doing THIS. They needed to act like Kurt's voice was important for Nationals, and now they're not using him? 9/10

I Love New York / New York, New York

Everyone sounds great on this song and even though I only know the New York, New York part, I found the song to be rather enjoyable. Santana's voice is just pure love. Not the best mash-up EVER on the show, but I like it. I have a funny feeling that the context will make this awesome. 7/10

Yeah!

Interesting. Vocal Adrenaline and New Directions competition: The Girls Academy! I started smiling the minute the girls started going "bee bee bee bip". Haha. This is actually quite catchy and I like the breakdown at the end. Plus, the back up voices are pretty good and the rapping is quite cool. Santana should go to this school! HAHA. 7/10

My Cup

This sounds so beachy! HAHA. Obviously, this song is in the veins of Trouty Mouth and My Headband. I must say though, this might be the first time that we're actually hearing Brittany's voice without all the studio editing that they've added to her past songs. I didn't really think she could sing before hearing this, but she has a nice pleasant voice when it's all pure. Very nice. 7/10

Glee Music 2: Funeral

Here are the songs for next week's episode mysteriously titled, Funeral. I got a couple of emails regarding this and I was told that someone will die in this episode - few speculations of who it will be but nothing is confirmed. Hopefully it's not another animal, just like how they created so much buzz about it last time and it was just apparently Pavarotti, the Dalton Academy bird. Anyway, enjoy!

Back To Black

While I still prefer her other songs like Songbird and Valerie over this, I think Santana's version of this ditty is actually better than the original. It's just so much sexier than Amy Winehouse's rendition. Her voice is silky, yet still raw with emotion. But I'm more than a little biased when it comes to Santana, so whatever. 8/10

My Man

Sheer vocal perfection. Rachel was made to sing this song! She's completely in her element and she sounds divine in it. To me, the best part in this song is when she goes up to belt on the "he'll never know" bit. It's a little short for my liking though. 8/10

Pure Imagination

Wow. This is wonderfully beautiful. Everyone sounds fantastic in this song, especially Kurt and, yes, Tina!! Why is she so underused is beyond my human comprehension. Anyway, the harmonies are incredible and I'm really thrilled it's a group song! Why do I feel like I may cry during this song on the actual episode? Haha. 9/10

Some People

Not a fan. Kurt's vocals are over the place on this one. I don't know. It's a nice throwback to Rose's Turn though. Yes, that's all I have to say. Haha 4/10

Try A Little Tenderness

Mercedes' pipes astound me. She killed this song! I'm hoping for a more modern arrangement of this song a la Michael Buble, but this is just fine. It started off just really slow for me to get into it early on. Good thing, it picked up in the end. 8/10

Glee Music 2: Pretending (Original Song)

A couple of day ago, I posted an original song entitled, Light Up The World, which is rumored to be one of New Direction's songs for Nationals. Well, here's the other one. A sweeping ballad duet by Rachel and Finn!

I admit, it's nowhere near the epicness of Faithfully, but it's a pretty song. The lyrics are very fitting and, of course, both of them sound really lovely together. I'm pretty sure the performance will be fantastic since these two have great chemistry, and the words and emotions of the song are beautiful. However, I'm just not convinced that this tune is Nationals material. It's a bit lightweight. They should have stuck with epic covers instead - but that's just me.

Glee Music 2: Light Up The World (Original Song)

Glee's Finale song (Nationals) is here!! Ryan Seacrest premiered the show's original song, Light Up The World, which will be available for download on iTunes on May 23.

Hmm. To be honest, I didn't like Loser Like Me, until I saw the energy of the performance on the actual episode. Then I got it and enjoyed it, albeit the shortened show version. Yes, this song has that same vibe. Again, I'm willing to wait and see how the scene turns out before I pass judgment. Any thoughts?

Glee Music 2: Prom Queen

Well, that was fast! Here are the songs that will be featured on next week's episode entitled Prom Queen. I must say, this is a pretty odd - in a good way - mix of songs. I also like that Jonathan Groff and Darren Criss are part of this episode. Enjoy!

Dancing Queen

Not surprising, Santana and Mercedes sound incredible together. The music kind of drowns them out in some parts and the verses - especially the first one - sounds too karaoke for my taste, but I honestly think that this is the most appropriate song for this episode. I'm just glad that these two were picked to sing it. 7/10

I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You

First, I hate the long title. Second, it feels like I'm listening to an exercise video or an educational video made for kids the age of 7. Third, not a fan of the overly techno beat. Yes, I don't like this cover. 3/10

Isn't She Lovely

Artie sounds fantastic, especially the a capella part, but the inappropriateness of this song for Artie is too much for me to handle. Wasn't this song written for a father/daughter kind of love? Oh, and it's too short. 7/10

Jar Of Hearts

GORGEOUS! Rachel sounds honest and sincere in this song and it's always a plus that she sings it beautifully. This is definitely one of her best, and that's saying something! I'd say depending on the context of it, this could actually be absolutely epic! 9/10

Rolling In The Deep

Jesse St. James is back!!! The arrangement of this is definitely interesting. I did not expect this to be an a capella version. But of course, with Jesse and Rachel's vocal chemistry and power, they obviously don't need anything else. I think their rendition is different and I'm just fascinated with it. 9/10

Friday

Wow. This is actually almost listenable! I love how they added the heavy drums into the production as it makes it way more energetic. The lyrics still make me cringe, but it is what it is. I admit, I didn't hate the original because most songs these days are just as dumb, and Glee, I think, made the song a lot more palatable. 7/10

Glee Music 2: Rumours

Here are the songs for next week's episode entitled, Rumours. Their music this week are all Fleetwood Mac songs, so I'm not that familiar with most of it. But, whatever. It's still a pretty decent mix of songs, I think. There are a couple of great surprises here and there.

Dreams

.. and I thought this is an original song of The Corrs. Haha. I like April Rhodes' character, but I've never really liked any song she's sung on Glee and this is no different. Yes, this duet - with Schuester, of course - sounds great, but it was somewhat boring. Sorry. 6/10

Don't Stop

This is unexpectedly energetic! Possibly one of the strongest tracks this week. I like the fact that Quinn is actually singing more these past few episodes. I like this one. 8/10

I Don't Want To Know

Finn and Quinn! The dynamics of this duet is surprisingly nice and I have to say, their voices mesh well together. It's nothing extraordinary, but it's still pretty. I'm not so sure about the production of the song though. 7/10

Go Your Own Way

The verses could've been a lot better, but I think Rachel rocks this song. On paper, her voice doesn't work well with a song like this, but her less edgy take on the song is a pleasant surprise. 7/10

Never Going Back Again

Not a fan of Artie voice or songs, but this is quite simple and nice. It's actually good to hear him get something to really work those vocals instead of the regular pop/hip-hop stuff he's been getting lately. It fits him. 7/10

Songbird

Utter. Freakin. Perfection. I'm SO pleased they gave this song to Santana. It sounds so raw, and emotional. I also like that it's just her and the piano. I'm actually quite impressed that she did so well on a softer raw song. Vocally and emotionally, the song is really special. Gorgeous. Haunting. Heartfelt. 10/10

Glee Music 2: Born This Way

Usually, Glee songs for next week are released - at least for streaming - every Friday. But somehow, ~~this particular song, Born This Way,~~ some songs for next week's episode entitled, yes, Born This Way, got out a little early than usual. Take a good listen to it!

Born This Way

I kind of like Lady Gaga's version and while this one sounds like there could be someone else to it, their rendition is not bad. I'm not over-the-top in love with it, but I guess this will do. I mean, even though it's an old trick by now, I enjoy Mercedes belting all over the last chorus. I'm not sure if it's Tina I'm hearing doing the verses with Mercedes, but I also like that pretty distinct inflection in her voice. Kurt talking (rapping?) is decent. I hope the performance on the show will do the trick. 7/10

Somewhere Only We Know

One of Warblers' best, I have to say. I think it's beautiful, and this song has a lot of emotional pull with me - they did really well with this one. I love the arrangement and I like how Blaine doesn't sound lifeless in this track. Plus, I heard that this is a Warblers + New Directions effort. If that's true, then that would be really interesting, I think. 10/10

I've Gotta Be Me

To be honest, this is the only song for next week I'm don't want to hear YET, but Finn sounds really good with this.. and in this genre? Who knew? I like that it sounds really natural and this has to be the best his voice has ever sounded! I'm impressed. 9/10

As If We Never Said Goodbye

This is actually pretty awesome. I was hoping for Rachel, but Kurt sounds incredibly wonderful in this song. The ups and downs on his vocals are really good and I actually think Kurt has outdone himself here. Not sure if this is his best solo - I think I still prefer Rose's Turn - but this is gorgeous. 9/10

I Feel Pretty / Unpretty

Wow. I was somewhat expecting this duet to be a disaster just because Rachel has a big powerful Broadway voice and Quinn has a much more low key soft jazz type of voice. On paper, this will never work, but NO! This song sounds really beautiful. Yes, Rachel is clearly the superior voice on this track, but I'm genuinely surprised that Quinn is able to hold her own here. I'm impressed. Looking forward to seeing this in context. 9/10

Glee Music 2: A Night Of Neglect

Yes! Glee is coming back this week and by that, it also means new music are coming your way!! But if I'm being honest, the set list for this episode is a bit underwhelming. I don't know. None of it was sung badly, it's just not a good mix of music. Oh well.

Ain't No Way

I love myself some Mercedes, but I wish they gave her something more fresh and exciting. I feel like I've heard this song from her a million times before. It's too safe, obvious and typical. Don't get me wrong, her vocals are fantastic, I just got bored with it. Oh, and is just me or does she sound higher than usual? 7/10

All By Myself

Sunshine Corazon (Charice) is back! It's beautifully sang, but just like her rendition of Listen, her LIVE rendition of this song is far more spectacular. I also think that this particular version isn't any different than any of the hundreds of covers I've heard of it. Plus, this song will always be associated with Emma crying in her car. Just saying. 7/10

I Follow Rivers

I like this. It's not an obvious Glee song, so it sounds fresh and unique compared to most songs covered this season. The auto-tune on Tina's voice is a bit heavy, but who am I to complain? This is her first solo EVER on the show so I'll take it. Fun. Soothing. Mystical. Effortless. Awesome. 8/10

Turning Tables

Ok. So, these kids have been begging Ryan Murphy to cover Adele and when the show is actually doing that, he suddenly gave it to the guest star, Gwyneth Paltrow! Really, Ryan Murphy? Let me be frank, Gwyneth doesn't have the voice to give justice to this song. No, it's not a horrible cover, but it's just not great. To me, it should have been given to Santana or Rachel for some vocal justice and still keep the relevance of the lyrics. Sigh. 7/10

Glee Music 2: What Kind Of Fool

After Do Ya Think I'm Sexy and Somewhere Only We Know, here is another cut from the upcoming The Warblers album. The record will be available for purchase on April 19.

What Kind Of Fool

I'm not sure if this is the strongest among the three new released cuts on the upcoming album, but I think this is really beautiful. It's easy listening, the harmonies are lovely and, of course, Blaine's voice is soothing. Personally, this is the type of music I enjoy from them. Top 40 hits are cool, but this is a pleasant change. 9/10

Glee Music 2: Somewhere Only We Know

After their cover of Do Ya Think I'm Sexy surfaced a couple of days ago, here is another cut from the upcoming The Warblers album, Keane's Somewhere Only We Know. The album will be available for purchase on April 19.

One of Warblers' best, I have to say. I think it's beautiful, and this song has a lot of emotional pull with me - they did really well with this one. I love the arrangement and I like how Blaine doesn't sound lifeless in this track. Plus, I heard that this is a Warblers + New Directions effort. Glee Music 2: Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?

Glee’s Dalton Warblers will release an entire CD of songs and will be available for purchase on April 19. For now, they made one song available for download on iTunes and I hope you like it - even if you're tired of the Warblers. Haha.

Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?

Not a fan of the Warblers, but this is really nice. It's very reminiscent of their other cover, When I Get You Alone. It's fun and the vocals are awesome. I am a sucker for an interesting a capella harmonies anyway. 7/10

Glee Music 2: Trouty Mouth and Big Ass Heart

Since there's clamor - ok. maybe not. - for these two songs, the show actually released them on iTunes. Nice no? Here are the other original songs featured on the last Glee episode: Trouty Mouth and Big Ass Heart. Yay! I'm still waiting for Only Child and My Headband. Make it happen Ryan Murphy! Haha.

Trouty Mouth

Yes, it's basically the same thing they featured on the show, but I don't really care because I really find this song really funny and catchy. Yes, it's offensive because it's not just about Sam Evans' lips.. it's Chord Overstreet's lips! But I don't really care. Haha. Santana is completely in character. I love how at first Santana seems to be all sexual and then BAM! She just hits you with the funniest song EVER. Haha. But seriously, I want her to sing All That Jazz from Chicago after hearing her with this. 9/10

Big Ass Heart

The impact of this song is not as big as Trouty Mouth but I think the song is adorable and fun. I also like Puck's voice in this song. I don't usually like his voice because it sounds so retro - old school, but it did work here. 7/10
