Human insect-eating is common in cultures in parts of the world, such as North, Central and South America; and Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand. Over 1,000 insects are known to be eaten in 80% of the world's nations. However, in some societies insect-eating is uncommon or even taboo.
Whether you prefer them baked, salted or served over rice, there’s more than one way to eat a bug.
10 Ways to Make Insects Delicious
Glamour Cabbage Girls
All these girls look glamourous and pose as if they were in fashion magazines even though they are made entirely of cabbage. Artist Ju Duoqi created the bizarre sculptures for her project called 'The Fantasies of Chinese Cabbage'. Every piece of the sculpture is made from the vegetable, including their clothes, hats and jewellery.
Meat Cake
Although it may not sound too appetizing, it actually looks rather tasty. It is made from some sort of ground meat, iced with mashed potatoes, and frosted with ketchup. Basically it is a meatloaf dinner all in one cake.
Mouth Watering Foodscapes
London-based artist Carl Warner creates amazing food landscapes he refers to as foodscapes. They are totally edible, but why would anyone want to ruin such masterpieces simply to satisfy their hunger?
Inspired by the work of American landscape photographer Ansel Adams, and literary works like The Wizard of Oz and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Carl Warner began creating his own unique landscapes out of food. Whether he uses vegetables, various bakery products or meat, his incredible foodscapes look absolutely mindblowing. While he likes to get involved in setting up the foodscapes, Carl admits he often asks for the help of model makers and food stylists to create his sets. The process usually starts with him drawing a sketch of the foodscape, then the set is created, and finally, he takes photos of it and retouches them on his Mac. It sounds simple enough, but the foodscapes are photographed in different layers, a laborious process that can take up to a few days. He also spends a lot of time staring at vegetables in the supermarket, which may sound weird, but finding the right looking veggies for a foodscape is very important to him.
