I just unpacked my 20" iMac last night after work and all I can say is, "OMG, it's big!" You don't really notice it in the store next to all the open space and the other computers, but it's definitely bigger than I expected. But it's SO awesome! Before I even plugged it in, I stuck an extra 1GB of RAM in it and then transferred all my files over from my PowerBook. That's SO slick.
Then I went through all the system updates and played around with some Photoshop and InDesign files and they opened nice and quick and looked gorgeous on the screen.
I also bought an iLugger bag since I'll be using it for DJing on occasion with tomorrow being the first time. I know it's a bit big for that but I wanted to upgrade from my PowerBook and didn't see the need to get a new one until the next major revision. The iMac will tide me over just fine.
It's hard to go back to my now little PowerBook's 15" screen after gazing at the vast amount of real estate on the iMac. Definitely a sweet upgrade.

I'm assuming its all charged up/plugged in so I'll go from there with things you've probably alreayd done
1. reset pmu/ change powersource
2. reset pram
3. check to see if the machine's backlight is off....can you hear any noises?
4. try booting from a cd ?
good luck, but if this fails you'll probably be listenting to the genius estiamte the repair time/cost

No NANO FOR ME! My so so friend got one over the weekend. Its really scratched up already. Im gonna go for a Apple refurbed 30GB color iPod. Or a plain 20GB.

I think any apple store will be safe for launch day. Even if its a long line, I think they'll be good with large quantities for the weekend.

As a Mac user just avoid file sharing sites and start using OpenDNS.com (http://www.opendns.com/). They have an instructional video (http://www.opendns.com/support/videos/basic) to show you how to use it. This way you can block know Trojan hosting sites from ever reaching you along with blocking any site you want without having to install any software on your network.

Have you tried to use an external monitor, that would tell you if your gfx chip is bad.

There's actually quite a few schools down here that each student is given a laptop we're talking High Schools with 1500+ kids... Within the first week kids were being robbed walking home from school for the laptops..

Thanks for the tip. apple's laptop are always such a pain to open up. Changing the hard drive on my toshiba only involved taking out 5 screws.:(
parts of pbfixit.com were good.. but that was the simple stuff.. the hardest part of the whole bit was doing this, and they essentially give you the wrong info. i should've taken pictures, but for anyone who is interested.. oh my 15" powerbook revision C, this holds true.
if you get to the part of having to remove this latch. get a nice dentist poker stick thingie and instead of prying at the case, simply push aside the optical slot protector/dust stoppers on the left side, right at the first little slit going vertically. insert the tip of the dentist thing into the area .. you can see the case and the latch if you look very carefully. put it in between them and gently pull forward while lifting on the top case gently. it comes off very very easily. this will essentially mean you touch ZERO of your case while taking this off. if you go in through the gap as pbfixit.com says, depending on the tool (metal or whatever) it will quickly turn nasty and you'll be ruining your case... if someone would like pictures, i can take them... it won't be real accurate, but i can point out the obvious parts. maybe i'll even put a guide together for it to help people..

Okay, for version 3.0, what if you could enter the specs you want (i.e. combo drive, FW800, USB2, 128 MB Vram), and then it would give you the various machines that can be configured that way, with prices.

Yes you can. Don't argue with me, I have been switching back and forth on Crysis 2 and there is definitely a noticeable difference.
However Games still look good with 1920x1080 on the 27" iMac.
It looks fine at 1920x1080 in games, that's when you would actually use it...

It's just that I'm in New York right now but I won't be in about two months. So the two months prior to my move in date I won't be in the city. I thought I could start the search now and be able to check out the place in person and sign the paperwork and whatnot.
The landlord said she has a current tenant whose lease is up a month before I move in, so my move in date works. However, I'm not allowed to see the place because there's someone living there right now and they have a "privacy policy." Is this normal?
However on her listings on the websites, one said the availability was Apr.1, and one said "now." So either she hasn't taken down the listings, or she is already looking for her next tenant? I have no idea how the whole renting thing works.
She did agree to meet face to face though. Should I ask her to bring some documents? Ownership papers perhaps?

No, I called Apple and they said I can only buy at the store using a company check.
Can you take the check to the company store and have them do a special/bto order, so you pay there but get it sent to you from the factory?
